We need to balance between sound quality and file size.įree MP3 Ringtone Maker v1.0 (for Windows 98/2000/XP/Win7) ( Freeware!) People want to hear high quality sound with lower storage requirements. For those music funs who own tons of albums, the space requirement becomes a real problem when they transfer the music files onto hardware such as MP3 players, hard-disks in their car or even thin laptops. The problem with lossless and high-quality lossy audio formats are that they take up a lot of storage space on your music equipment.

These are the only 2 lossy audio formats which support bitrates beyond 320 kbps. You may also want to check out OGG Vorbis lossy format, or WMA professional. Those formats have the same sound quality as a music CD. If you're an audiophile and require the utmost in sound quality, you may want to use a lossless audio format like FLAC or WMA lossless. Personally, I keep all my music in FLAC, because it's a replica of my physical medias, and if I need a different format than MP3, I have the lossless source readily available. Many people wonder, with so many audio formats out there, which one has the best sound quality?įirst of all, we're talking about “lossy” audio formats.

I made the reply before my morning coffee, and it shows! I wasn't suppose to come across as Mr Know-better-than-you, but rather tell that if you want to upgrade from V0 or 320, then do it for reasons other than the fidelity, because that is mostly unlikely to make a difference to you. So pardon me for being skeptic, but have you confirmed with abx testing? While many believe they can tell the difference, I have not yet heard of anyone who can, and if you are able to tell the difference, there is a job waiting at various sound labs that develop algorithms for sound compression.

rantĪt hydrogen audio, it's fairly well established that only very few people can tell the difference between V0 and lossless on a highend system in a double blind abx test - 320kbps even less so. I just wish people would stop giving me crap about it. But personally, if I can't find a song in FLAC, I'll jump to whatever I can find.

If you want to download your music as 96kbps CBR MP3 files, be my guest, if you can't tell the difference, it doesn't matter.
